As
a producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist I have
spent the majority of his life creating music. I share
my namesake with the great jazz drummer Dave
Tough who played with the likes of
Woody Herman, Benny Goodman and
Tommy Dorsey.
I began on saxophone and piano moving to jazz drums (a mere
coincidence) a few years later. Growing up, I was playing drums
and bass to Wings and Tom Petty albums and recording several
bands in his basement.
I have produced, engineered and written for several artists
in Nashville and Los Angeles including Come and Go, Cindy Alter,
Jake Simpson, Matt Heinecke, etc (see client list for update).
While in Los Angeles, I worked and studied under engineering
names
such
as Bruce
Swedein
and Neil
Citron from Steve Vais Mothership studios. I have also worked
for Capitol Records, Warner Chappell Music, TAXI, BMG and EMI
among
others.
As an solo artist, I have released two solo albums Gravity Always
Wins (2004) and I'm Right Here (1999) which can be found on cdbaby.com.
The last few years I have been a recording
educator at Cal Poly, UCLA, UNA and Belmont University. I am
currently an Assistant Professor of Recording Technology at
Belmont. I have my undergraduate degree from the University
of North Texas
in
Jazz Drumset and
an MBA from Pepperdine University.
I am located in Nashville, Tennessee where I produces
artists and teaches music recording. I am a member of The
National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences; The American
Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers; Music and Entertainment
Industry Educators Association; and serves on the AES committee
in Nashville, TN.
