ENGINEERS
Steven Leavitt - Los Angeles
Steven Leavitt is an independent music producer, engineer, and
musician based near Los Angeles, California.
He has been busy with a host of projects recently including an
EP for the Venus Illuminato and a single on Marina V’s latest
release “Modern Fairytale.” Upcoming projects span
gamut of genres from Pop to Rock to Electronic as well as more
experimental ventures into all of the above.
Steve picked up the piano at the age of 8 years old and started
writing by the age of 12. As a teenager he preferred to spend
a majority of his weekends and summers in his room with his 4
track, Mackie board and 32 channels of midi programming hundreds
of electronic instrumental pieces.
He went on to form a band and was playing local coffee houses,
churches, and parks in his hometown by age 15. Then, at 17,
recording a full album for a group at his high school was
one of his most ambitious tasks.
Leavitt then graduated from the Musician's Institute, in Hollywood
California, where he studied as a recording engineer. He also
attended Pepperdine University before leaving to pursue the
music industry.
In
2004, Steve founded Don't Call Us Tori with Los Angeles based
singer/songwriter Shannon Hurley, which has become a haven for
great music in L.A. helping to cross-promote specifically female
solo artists.
In 2005, Steve co-produced Real Life Music’s release “Gravity
Always Wins” for Dave Tough.
Steve's
unique sound is influenced uniquely by his keyboard playing
roots. Recently, after a stint in a classic-rock revival band
discovered his new found love for the Hammond B3. Steve owns
a
reproduction, the Korg BX-3 complete with classic drawbars
and two levels of keys. Of his compositions, people have said
he likes
to paint musical pictures, telling an emotional
story much like a movie soundtrack. His favorite influences
include such diversities
as Radiohead and Lyle Lovett, Rage Against the Machine and
Bruce Hornsby, and he prefers modern film composers like James
Horner
to J.S. Bach.
Steven Leavitt works freelance and from his own project studio
in North Los Angeles.
